Mormon leader in 'child sex' arrest

The leader of a polygamist offshoot of the Mormon church has been arrested on child sex charges after four years on the run in the US. (Pic: Reuters)

Warren Jeffs, who has 40 wives and 70 children, was stopped over a traffic offence in Nevada. Police found a number of mobile phones, credit crads and wigs in the car.

One of America's most wanted men, he is accused of arranging weddings between underage girls and older men.

The 50-year-old the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was wanted in Utah and Arizona.

He assumed leadership of the sect in four years ago after the death of his 98-year-old father, Rulon Jeffs, who had 65 children by several women. Jeffs took nearly all his father's widows as his own wives.

The sect split from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when the mainstream Mormon Church disavowed plural marriage more than 100 years ago.

During his leadership, it is thought the number of underage marriages - some involving girls as young as 13 - escalated into the hundreds.

Disaffected followers say that before he came to power, young girls were rarely married off.

Fort Worth pastor indicted on rape under guise of casting out demons

Associated Press

FORT WORTH -- A pastor accused of raping a church member at his house last year under the guise of casting out demons has been indicted.

Leonard Ray Owens, 63, who is free on $25,000 bail, is now awaiting trial on a charge of sexual assault, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison. He was arrested in November.

Police began investigating Owens last year after a 22-year-old woman reported that Owens raped her twice at his Fort Worth home. The woman told police that in July, several months after she began attending the Prayer House of Faith, she went to Owens' home for counseling following a miscarriage.

Owens told her that a sex spirit and lesbian demon were inside her and needed to be cast out, police said. The pastor then asked her to lie on the floor and began yelling at her as if she were a demon, saying, "Loose her in the name of Jesus," according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The woman told police that Owens pulled down her pants as he called for the demons to come out. When she tried to get up, he pushed her down, the affidavit said. The pastor then began to fight with her as if she were a demon before climbing on top of her, pinning her down and raping her, police have said.

Then Owens, a self-proclaimed prophet, ordered her to wash her face in the name of Jesus and to read Psalm 105:15, which says to do no harm to prophets, the woman told police.

The woman told officers that Owens raped her again a month later, after he asked her to go to his house to pray for another woman.

Owens has denied having sexual contact with the woman, police have said.

Pastor sentenced to jail

FORT WORTH -- Terry Hornbuckle used to stand before thousands and preach the word of God.

On Monday, he stood silent in a Tarrant County courtroom and listened as one of the women he raped called him the devil.

"You are evil in every way," Kate Jones said defiantly. "You are truly pathetic in everyone's eyes."

Minutes after jurors sentenced Hornbuckle to 15 years in prison for drugging and raping her, Jones lambasted him in a three-page, double-spaced victim-impact statement, not only for what he did to her but also for sexually assaulting two other women.

In addition to that 15-year sentence, jurors sentenced Hornbuckle to 14 years in prison for raping Krystal Buchanan and 10 years in prison for raping a third woman, Jane Doe. Jones and Doe are pseudonyms.

"What you have done is the most horrible thing that anyone could do," Jones told Hornbuckle. "You preyed among the people you were supposed to help in their weakest moment."

Because Hornbuckle was tried for three rapes at once, the three sentences will run at the same time. Hornbuckle must serve half of the longest sentence, or 7 1/2 years, before he is eligible for parole.

Hornbuckle, a "prosperity preacher" who founded Agape Christian Fellowship in southeast Arlington, must also pay a $30,000 fine: $10,000 for each victim.

After the verdict, prosecutors Sean Colston and Betty Arvin praised jurors for giving Hornbuckle a long prison sentence and vindicating the women who came forward.

"You can't help but to be affected by what these women and their families have gone through," Arvin said.

Prosecutors had asked jurors for the maximum 20 years in prison.

Arvin, who has called Hornbuckle a charlatan, said she doesn't believe he feels remorse, even after sitting through the monthlong trial.

"I would like to hope that he does," Arvin said. "But, no, I don't think he does. I haven't seen any sign of it."

Defense attorney Mike Heiskell, who defended Hornbuckle with Leon Haley, said they had hoped for a "more compassionate sentence" for the pastor, who has three children. They had asked jurors to sentence Hornbuckle, who they say is addicted to methamphetamine, to probation so he could receive drug treatment.

Heiskell said he hopes Hornbuckle can find someone in the prison system "to get him back on the right road."

"Obviously, we are disheartened and disappointed by the sentence that was imposed by the jury," he said.

During the trial in state district Judge Scott Wisch's court, the three women described how Hornbuckle assaulted them.

Buchanan, a 23-year-old former basketball player at the University of Texas at Arlington and a former member of Hornbuckle's church, testified that he drugged and raped her in a Euless apartment in 2004.

Jane Doe, a 25-year-old former parishioner, told jurors that she turned to Hornbuckle for counseling after a devastating breakup with her boyfriend and that the sessions in 2003 turned sexual four or five times. In Texas, it is a crime for a clergyman to take advantage of a parishioner's emotional state for sex.

Jones, a 34-year-old single mother, testified that Hornbuckle drugged and raped her at her apartment after they smoked methamphetamine together in 2004.

Last week, the jury of nine women and three men found Hornbuckle guilty of all three charges.

During the punishment phase, jurors heard from a fourth woman who said Hornbuckle took advantage of her sexually during a church trip to San Antonio. They also heard that he continued to use drugs in the Tarrant County Jail.

After deliberating a total of 8 1/2 hours, jurors assessed his punishment Tuesday afternoon. When the judge announced the verdicts, Hornbuckle stood stoically. Sitting nearby, his wife, Renee, who has taken over as pastor of Agape, appeared stone-faced behind sunglasses.

She left shortly after the verdict was read.

On the other side of the courtroom, Jones and Loretta Sheppard, Buchanan's mother, held hands as tears welled up in their eyes.

Sheppard was the first to address Hornbuckle from the witness stand.

She read a victim-impact statement prepared by her daughter, who was not in court Monday. Buchanan described what her life has been like since she was raped, saying she was hurt "beyond belief."

"Hornbuckle, I hated you for a very long time," Sheppard read. "But there came a point in my life where I realized I was chosen by my Lord and savior to be used in a most difficult way. He needed me to stop you from doing to this to everyone and anyone who you may come in contact with."

In her statement, Buchanan called the jurors "disciples" and thanked them for backing her.

To Hornbuckle, she said, "You have finally lost."

Jones was next.

She also told Hornbuckle he betrayed her trust and nearly destroyed her life. But, like Buchanan, she credited her faith for the strength to stand up.

"I knew I had to survive," Jones told him. "I knew I had to make sure you were off the streets and behind bars. You have no right to ever be free; you are a rapist and you have shown that you will never quit."

She also told Hornbuckle to that he deserved to die for his crimes.

"I see no reason to waste taxpayers' dollars on a waste like you," she said.

After she stepped down, Wisch said a few words of his own for Hornbuckle, church members, the victims and family members on both sides:

"It's time to go on with the rest of your lives," he said. "Close this book. Let it go and move on with your lives. Let this trial end here."

What's ahead

The Rev. Terry Hornbuckle is headed to prison, but six other criminal cases are pending against him. They include three charges of sexual assault involving two other women, a methamphetamine possession charge, a charge of retaliation and a charge of tampering with a witness. The Tarrant County district attorney's office will review the cases to determine whether to prosecute them in light of Tuesday's verdicts, prosecutor Sean Colston said. Also, several lawsuits have been filed against Hornbuckle.

Canterbury teacher / pastor arrested on molestation charges

School: Allegations do not involve students here
From staff reports

A sixth-grade social studies teacher at Canterbury Middle School was arrested Monday on two counts of child molestation.

Allen County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Stone said warrants officers arrested Michael Chad Smith, 35, without incident at school.

A statement from Canterbury said the allegations did not involve students there. Stone said Smith had an outstanding warrant out of Howard County. The school said the allegation dated to 2001.

Canterbury officials said they conducted “thorough background checks” on Smith, including a criminal history investigation from the Indiana State Police and reference interviews on his character. Neither revealed any concerns.

He had been employed at Canterbury only five days, school officials said. They suspended him upon his arrest. He is a former resident of Howard County, of which Kokomo is the county seat.

Smith had been a long-term substitute teacher at Miami Middle School in Fort Wayne and a youth pastor at Heartland Community Church before coming to Canterbury. He also had been a teacher and coach in the Northwestern School Corporation in Howard County dating back to 1992, the school said.

Smith received his bachelor’s from Indiana University, according to his bio on Canterbury’s Web site.

Tom Cruise – NUTCASE Scientologist.

What is it with Scientologists not liking drugs that can help people with anxiety and depression?

I went to a Scientology meeting place, very weird. There were about six people there, and they wanted to know when we were coming so they could have a “service.” It was kind of like any other church service but without singing if I recall correctly. This you guy got up and read something from a BIG book. (Sure it was L Ron Hubbard) then he talked. It was basic religion gobbledygook.

Afterwards we were treated to their little machine. He brought out this suitcase and opened it up to reveal a 1950’s looking device with two rods. He told me to hold the rods. I did. There were several meters on this device and he went on to tell me that it showed I was “out of balance.” I really had to hold back the laughter. I mean I am no scientist, but come on……. Give me a break I am not an idiot either.

He then went on to show me this huge chart, kind of like a who’s who of Scientology by rank. When I asked how one ascends the chart he wavered for a moment and said by getting read by other scientologists higher up in the chain.

We left, I was NOT impressed.

From what I know about Scientology, it just costs money to ascend the chart to the top. Where I suppose Tom Cruise and John Travolta are. Count me out of that little scheme.

What's been going on ...

Sorry about the lack of posting, I have been really busy with all sorts of medical stuff. I can tell you one thing, hospitals suck.

I had a visit from a very strange "preacher" while in the hospital. I have no idea who sent him, or why he came by actually. He wanted to pray with me, I of course said no. Then he told me he would pray FOR me.... I said don't bother. Then the bastard just shook his head and left the room. Condescending bastard.

Why do xtians all have to act so superior all the time? It's like they think there in some secret club.

Former pastor sentenced for rape of teenage girl

NORWICH, N.Y. (AP) _ A former pastor who pleaded guilty to disappearing with a 15-year-old girl and performing a marriage ceremony on the run was sentenced Monday to 9 1/3 to 28 years in state prison.

Lewis Lee, 54, pleaded guilty in June to seven counts of third-degree rape. He was sentenced to seven consecutive terms of 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison.

Lee was scheduled to appear for sentencing in federal court Sept. 22 on various charges.

Authorities said any additional federal penalties will run concurrently with the time he will serve in state prison.

Lee was arrested in April in Maryland on a federal warrant charging him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and a New York warrant for first-degree custodial interference.

The teenager from the town of Columbus was with Lee when the two were taken into custody a month after they disappeared. Lee was the girl's former pastor at the Christian Baptist Church in Sherburne, about 45 miles north of Binghamton.

Lee was caught after his sister provided police with information of his whereabouts.

Penis Pump Judge

Okay this is weird ...
----------------------

A former judge convicted of exposing himself while presiding over jury trials by using a sexual device under his robe was sentenced Friday to four years in prison.

Donald Thompson had spent almost 23 years on the bench and had served as a state legislator before retiring from the court in 2004. He showed no reaction when he was sentenced.

At his trial this summer, his former court reporter, Lisa Foster, testified that she saw Thompson expose himself at least 15 times during trial between 2001 and 2003. Prosecutors said he also used a device known as a penis pump during at least four trials in the same period.

Thompson, 59, was convicted last month of four felony courts of indecent exposure for incidents that took place in his Creek County courtroom.

Thompson, a married father of three grown children, testified that the penis pump was given to him as a joke by a longtime hunting and fishing buddy.

"It wasn't something I was hiding," he said.

He said he may have absentmindedly squeezed the pump's handle during court cases but never used it to masturbate.

Foster told authorities that she saw Thompson use the device almost daily during the August 2003 murder trial of a man accused of shaking a toddler to death. A whooshing sound could be heard on Foster's audiotape of the trial. When jurors asked the judge about the sound, Thompson said he hadn't heard it but would listen for it.

Police built a case against the judge after a police officer testifying in a 2003 murder trial saw a piece of plastic tubing disappear under Thompson's robe. During a lunch break, officers took photographs of the pump under the desk.

Investigators later checked the carpet, Thompson's robes and the chair behind the bench and found semen, according to court records.

Carmelia Brossett, a senior probation officer for the state Department of Corrections, said in a presentencing report that Thompson refused to undergo psychosexual testing.

"Thompson's denial of the offense would likely present difficulty, if not inability for treatment providers to provide meaningful and beneficial sex-offender treatment," she said.

The jury recommended a sentence of one year in prison and a $10,000 fine on each count. The jury foreman has said it was the jury's intent that Thompson serve the full sentence.

Judge C. Allen McCall denied a defense motion asking that Thompson be allowed to remain free pending an appeal. Thompson was also ordered to pay a $40,000 fine.

Former pastor arrested for child sex

A Clark County school teacher was arrested Friday.

Carl Leiner, a 5th grade teacher at Lunt Elementary School, is behind bars after being charged with lewdness with a minor under the age of 14, and possession of child pornography.

Police say it was during their investigation of the teacher when they found pornography on one of his computers.

Leiner has been with the Clark County School District for seven years. Police haven't said if the alleged victim is one of his students at Lunt Elementary School.

Eyewitness News spoke to Leiner ex-wife of 30 years. Janet Leiner saw her ex-husband's mugshot and she says it isn't the man she remembers.

"His mugshot is the worst picture I've ever seen of him in my life," Janet Leiner said.

Janet doesn't remember the deep worry lines across Carl's forehead, or the swollen eyes behind these glasses.

She remembers a caring man -- a minister, a counselor, a teacher for the school district. "He loves children, but not the way they're making it look," Janet Leiner said.

Last Friday Janet got a call she never expected.

Carl had been arrested, accused of having child pornography on his personal computer and accused of molesting one of his former students.

The Clark County School District says in cases like these, teachers aren't allowed back in the classroom until the investigation is complete.

In addition to teaching, he's also been a counselor, a pastor, and a foster parent.

Former Pastor Dr. Robert Gray In Court Again

By Kristin Smith
First Coast News

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The former pastor accused of molesting children from his church was arraigned on new charges Tuesday.

More than 20 women and one man have come forward claiming Dr. Robert Gray molested them.

Gray says he's not guilty.

It's been decided that come time for Dr. Gray's trial, the man who now claims to have been victimized by Gray years ago in his Trinity Baptist office, will be with all the others who claim the same thing.

Denise Green says when she was a little girl, her pastor, Dr. Robert Gray, told her everything he did and said was from God, and she should never question it.

"You don't mess with God's man. That was what was taught at Trinity," said Denise, an alleged victim.

She says over time, she began to get angry, only she didn't really know why.

Until someone came forward with a similar story.

And Dr. Gray was arrested for molesting children like her.

Another woman who claims Gray molested her says the more that come forward, like the man who came forward as a victim recently, the stronger the case gets against Gray.

"A lot of people are under the impression that they're not needed. And they are needed," said Sandy, another woman who claims to have been victimized by Gray.

Denise says she plans to go to court every time Gray does.

This time, she noticed a change from the man she once knew, and the man she saw in court last time.

"He seemed fairly normal. Last time I was angered to see him, because he seemed more cocky last time. He seemed more demure and humble this time, if that's possible," said Denise.

And Denise says she's sure there are more victims than anyone, except for Dr. Gray, knows.

"I know there's people before me and after me," said Denise.

At the arraignment Tuesday morning, several people who claim Gray molested them were there.

And some say they saw at least one of Dr. Gray's children there as well.

His pre-trial hearing is set for September 15th, and his trial is set for November 27th.

Priest admits to sexaul miconduct

SUNDAY NEWS ROUNDUP
08/13/06 7:50 PDT

Santa Rosa's Roman Catholic Bishop Daniel Walsh admitted in a letter to Catholic parishioners Saturday that he made a mistake by not immediately reporting Rev. Francisco Xavier Ochoa's admissions of sexual misconduct with three underage boys.

Ochoa, 67, the assistant pastor of St. Francis Solano Parish in Sonoma, admitted to Walsh on April 28 that he kissed a 12-year-old boy during a strip tease incident in his apartment earlier that month and that he had sexual contact with two other boys, now adults, years before.

Walsh suspended Ochoa that day but the diocese did not inform Sonoma County Child Protective Services about the incident until May 1. Ochoa disappeared after May 2 and is believed to be in Mexico.

The Sonoma County district attorney's office has charged Ochoa with 10 felony counts of committing lewd acts with underage boys. The Sonoma County Sheriff's Department is also investigating whether Walsh and other priests who were aware of Ochoa's behavior broke state law by not reporting it immediately.

In his letter, Walsh said, "I made an error in judgment by waiting to report Rev. Ochoa's admission. I should have acted immediately, and not delayed. For this I am deeply sorry.

Walsh could face a misdemeanor charge punishable with a six-month jail term and $1,000 fine for failing to immediately report Ochoa's behavior.

"If I am found guilty for not taking immediate action, I will accept whatever punishment is imposed,'' Walsh said.

Under state law, teachers, clergy, child caregivers and others are required to "immediately or as soon as is practicably possible by telephone'' report suspected child abuse or neglect.

Wayne Presley, a Foster City resident and a leader of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, said Walsh exposed countless other children to possible abuse by allowing Ochoa time to escape arrest.

The two types of Christians

As far as I can tell there are basically two types of Christians in the world:

1. Jesus loves you and wants you to go to heaven

a) They really believe in heaven, some believe in hell. They want everyone to be "saved" and focus on God's love for all mankind. They tend to come from mainstream churches and are somewhat more "liberal" on social issues like homosexuality and abortion.

b) They also see Hell as a place God made for the evil demons and Satan, but have no answer to the question of why God did not send these demons to this place instead of letting them roam free on the Earth to tempt us.

c) People who believe like this:

I) Robert Schuler
II) Martin Luther King, Jr.
III) Albert Schweitzer
IV) Andrew Hutchison, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada.

2. Accept Jesus or spend eternity in Hell.

a) Hell was created for Satan and his demons, and the vast majority of mankind that reject Jesus as savior. Billions of people will be cast into hell for their non belief.

b) Hell is forever, there is no escape. Eternal torment and agony for all non believers.

c) Christ is coming back soon, and we need to prepare for him politically. Bring on Armageddon.

People who believe like this:

I) Pat Robertson
II) George Bush
III) James Dobson
IV) Fred Phelps

Former youth pastor pleads guilty to sex charges

By Rebecca L. Sandlin
Posted: 08/12/06 - 09:53:25 am EDT

A former Cicero resident and Wesleyan Church youth pastor could spend as long as 20 years behind bars after he pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor.

Josh Kramp, 28, St. Clair, Mich., told Hamilton Superior Court 2 Judge Daniel Pfleging he was guilty of having sex with a girl numerous times between Sept. 12, 2003, and Sept. 11, 2005. She was 14 and 15 at the time the incidents took place. When Kramp was arrested in Michigan April 20, Maj. David Hildebrand of the Cicero Police Department said his department was tipped off about a possible relationship between Kramp and a teenager in January after investigating a disturbance between the two at Kramp's residence.

During an interview at Chaucie's Place, the girl told police that she and Kramp had engaged in sexual activity beginning when she was 13. Kramp later resigned his position with the church and moved to Michigan. Both charges Kramp pleaded guilty to are Class B felonies that carry a possible prison sentence of between six and 20 years and a fine up to $10,000. In a plea agreement Kramp reached with the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office, two counts of child molesting he had been facing were dropped. Pfleging ordered a pre-sentence report, including an interview with officers from Hamilton County Community Corrections. If he accepts Kramp's plea agreement, Judge Pfleging said he likely would hand down a 14-year sentence for the first count, with 10 years to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction and four years at Hamilton County Community Corrections.

Pfleging said the likely sentence would be 10 years in the Department of Correction on the second count, suspended to probation. Pfleging said the sentences would run consecutively. Kramp would also pay court costs, register as a sex offender and undergo sex offender treatment and counseling. Kramp had little to say during the guilty plea hearing. However, he was allowed a few minutes to talk with his mother, who had driven to Noblesville from Michigan for the hearing. Kramp will be sentenced Sept. 29.

Madison Township man facing up to three years in prison on felony counts
The pastor of a Madison Township church has admitted using the identity of an acquaintance to get prescription pain medication.

The Rev. David S. Reed of Chapel United Methodist Church pleaded guilty Thursday in Lake County Common Pleas Court to three felony counts of deception to obtain a dangerous drug.

He politely answered Judge Eugene A. Lucci's questions but did not otherwise speak on his own behalf.

"Mr. Reed has completed inpatient drug counseling," said his attorney, Christopher Moore.
Reed, 38, of Madison Township was arrested by Lake County Narcotics agents in February after a pharmacist at the North Ridge Road Rite Aid became suspicious, Special Prosecutor John P. O'Donnell said.

Reed managed to pick up three bogus prescriptions for Darvocet in December and January by using the name of one of his church members, who is a doctor.

But the fourth time he called, a woman who answered the phone knew the doctor he was claiming to be and recognized that the voice over the phone wasn't his, according to Lt. Ed Ebert of the narcotics agency.

Reed previously told a reporter he suffers from chronic pain due to several surgeries. He also told the judge he takes heart and blood pressure medication.

Reed said he resorted to such desperate measures because he was unable to get the medication while he was between doctors, which caused a delay in paperwork getting to the right place.
The pastor remains free on his own recognizance.

He faces up to three years in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 5.
However, his attorney has requested Lucci instead sentence Reed to treatment since he is a first-time offender.

The prosecutor said he saw no reason why the request would not be granted.
The judge has referred the case to a court-appointed psychiatrist to assess whether Reed is a good candidate for such a sentence.

After the hearing, Reed referred all questions to his attorney.

Moore refused to answer any questions, including what Reed's status as a pastor is now that he has pleaded guilty.

Church officials were not immediately available for comment late Thursday afternoon.

Teenager in tears over photo evidence

By Piet Van Niekerk

A TEENAGER from Summerstrand broke down in tears as she was asked to identify herself and other women in an album of hard-core pornography handed in as evidence in a string of charges ranging from rape, indecent assault, drug abuse and the making of child pornography against a well-known Summerstrand church pastor, who is her stepfather.

The teenager, who may not be named, testified in the High Court against the man who became her adoptive stepfather after she was taken from her parents at the age of six because of their substance abuse.

The dark-haired girl – dressed in jeans, a white top and black jacket – was calm throughout her testimony for the State, until she was asked to identify the girls in pictures printed from a data CD allegedly made by the pastor. The evidence remained sealed by the prosecuting team until the court hearing started yesterday morning to protect the girls in the pictures.

The 54-year-old pastor, who remains in custody, faces several charges of raping his adopted child during the period 2003 to 2005 while she was between the ages of 15 and 17. He is also accused of indecent assault involving sodomy and the use of sex toys on the teenager.

In addition, he has been charged with crimen injuria for spying on the teenager and his own daughter while they were naked by installing secret video cameras in their bathroom.

He was arrested on May 18 last year after the girl reported the abuse to her boyfriend who then reported it to the police. Police found several vibrators, pornographic videos, a disc containing pornographic material, condoms and drugs in his house.

The pastor, who pleaded not guilty, also faces charges for the possession and creation of child pornography and the possession and use of drugs such as cocaine, dagga and Ecstacy.

Earlier yesterday the girl testified how the pastor started to caress her in 2002 and, during a stay in a guest house in Graaff-Reinet, allowed her to drink and smoke. When she became intoxicated, he had sexual intercourse with her.

This continued happening until 2005 when he introduced her to drugs on a regular basis. They also watched pornography together before and while having intercourse.

She said he took explicit photographs of her which he published on the internet and made video recordings of her dancing naked.

She said she now realised that he took control of her and in the process took away her childhood. He also turned her family, including her mother, against her. All that was left now, was hurt, she said.

The gray-haired churchman – dressed in a gray jersey and a black leather jacket – sat motionless in the dock while the teenager testified how he needed to inject himself with drugs to get an erection.

She said he encouraged her to take Ecstacy when she refused to allow him to have his way with her.

The court adjourned shortly after the girl broke down in tears. She will be cross-examined when the trial resumes this morning.

Madonna might be excommunicated?

The Vatican is warning Madonna that she faces ex-communication if she goes ahead with a mock-crucifixion when she brings her "Confessions Tour" to Rome on Sunday.

The segment from the show features Madge wearing a fake crown of thorns and descending on a suspended, glittery cross.

"This time the limits have really been pushed too far," fumed Cardinal Ersilio Tonino, who said he was speaking with the approval of Pope Benedict XVI.

"This concert is a blasphemous challenge to the faith and a profanation of the cross. She should be excommunicated."

Come on Ersilio, that comment is a lot like waving a red flag in front of a charging bull.

Back in 1989 the Vatican blasted Madonna for "Like a Prayer" because the video featured burning crosses, statues crying blood and Madonna seducing a black Jesus.

Deacon banned in church power struggle

By CHRIS HAWES / WFAA-TV

A judge issued a temporary restraining order to keep Deacon William Brown away from Elm Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

FORT WORTH — A long-time church leader was officially barred from the congregation he once served after a power struggle led two religious men to take their fight from the pulpit to the courthouse.

A Tarrant County judge banned Deacon William Brown from Elm Grove Missionary Baptist Church, which means if he goes back he could be arrested.

For more than two decades, Brown was among those who prayed and sang with other church members every Sunday.

Now, the deacon can only watch home videos of past services.

Brown said the rift began with a church power struggle over who would lead the Elm Grove congregation. After Brown questioned Pastor Paul Lawson's authority, Brown said Lawson tried to revoke the his church membership.

That was when Lawson sought help from a higher power, the Tarrant County District Court. A judge granted Lawson's request for a temporary restraining order.

"I never, ever thought I would see the day when pastor would be suing me," Brown said. "I cannot be within 500 feet of Elm Grove Missionary Baptist Church. I cannot be within 500 feet of Rev. Lawson himself."

In court filings, Lawson said he felt physically threatened by Brown and claimed Brown failed to attend "worship services" and choir rehearsals.

While Lawson said he had no comment on why he decided to take the issue to court, his attorney issued a statement that said that the legal action was undertaken after "prayerful reflection."

But Brown said he will continue his struggle to get back inside his church. A judge will reconsider the restraining order at a hearing next week.

Youth minister faces sex charges

Police report 27-year-old man molested boy, 15, after church activity

By Kevin O'Neal
kevin.oneal@indystar.com

A youth pastor at a Near-Northside church faces preliminary felony charges after allegations that he molested a 15-year-old boy after a church event this week.

Tyree Coleman, 27, has been involved in community activities and received awards for his community work. But according to Indianapolis sex crimes investigators, he persuaded a boy to have sex with him this week at the church and tried to talk another boy into a sex act.

That led to a police investigation and Coleman's arrest Tuesday on preliminary felony charges of criminal deviate conduct and sexual misconduct with a minor.

He was being held at the Arrestee Processing Center on Wednesday evening, and no bond had been set.

No one was available Wednesday at the Temple of Refuge, Coleman's church, to comment.

According to Indianapolis police, the incident began Monday after a youth gathering at the church, 2801 N. Guilford Ave., where Coleman is the assistant pastor in charge of youth activities.

Teenage girls were supposed to leave the church at 10 p.m. Monday, and boys were supposed to leave at 11 p.m., according to Sgt. Matthew Mount, Indianapolis Police Department spokesman. However, some of the boys apparently stayed over until early Tuesday morning.

Around 2 or 3 a.m. Tuesday, "Mr. Coleman induced a young man to go into his office and had a sexual act with him," Mount said.

The 15-year-old boy who allegedly had sex with Coleman later spoke to another 15-year-old boy, who said Coleman also tried to persuade him to have sex, according to Mount.

Coleman was arrested later Tuesday. Police found that he was wanted on a court warrant for failing to appear at an initial hearing in 2005 after being arrested on a charge of driving while his license was suspended.

When Coleman was an 18-year-old senior at Northwest High School in 1997, he received an Ameritech award for heading the Youth as Resources organization.

At an anti-crime conference where that award was given, he gave a speech introducing Tipper Gore, wife of then-Vice President Al Gore.

The award led U.S. Rep. Julia Carson, D-Ind., to have a statement read into the Congressional Record that honored Coleman.

Two years later, he organized a peace rally that was held at the same time as a Ku Klux Klan rally Downtown.

Last year, Coleman posted a message on a Web site stating he was a supporter of Gov. Mitch Daniels and the father of two girls.

EMBATTLED General Overseer of Christian Praying Assembly (CPA), Rev (Dr) Emeka Ezeugo King, who allegedly directed the setting ablaze of some of his church members last week, will appear before a Lagos court today.

King was arrested last week by a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Olubode Ojajuni, while driving out of his church.

The charge today is coming on the heels of protests by scores of people, including parents and relations of the victims, at Lagos State secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, demanding the closure of the church.

Daily Champion learnt that King would be charged with conspiracy, attempted murder, and inflicting injurious harms, among others.

Speaking on the issue, Ojajumi who is State Police spokesman said the police have concluded preliminary investigations on the matter, noting that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emmanuel Adebayo has given the go-ahead to charge King to court.
Ojajuni who refused to disclose the court said: "As of now I do not know the court but I know that Kings will be arraigned in court tomorrow. (today) he will be docked, we have concluded preliminary investigation on the matter."

King was arrested following the revelation of six members of his church who escaped being burnt to death by the pastor over alleged immoral acts.

The victims claimed that King poured petrol on them and struck matches to burn them but they were saved by divine providence.

One of the victims, identified as Ann Uzu, who is still hospitalized narrated how they escaped through the back door.

However, the protesters led by Mr. Raphael Uzu, father of Ann, one of the victims who survived the alleged fire, told Daily Champion that their protest followed alleged move by the church to influence the police over the issue.

Uzu who disclosed that his daughter ran away from home to the church, several years ago, noted that her life and those of others who exposed the alleged activities of the pastor would be in danger if the church would be allowed to exist.

He told our correspondent that her daughter was critically ill at a hospital at Ajao Estate.

However, the protesters who carried various placards with inscriptions like "Killer Pastor Must go to jail," "This King is evil," "Revoke the C of O of the Church," "Tinubu, Close Down the Church," "it is a criminal place and other warned in the alleged criminal activities going on in the church.

One of the victims who escaped death by the whisker informed Daily Champion under anonymity, that their lives are in danger, disclosing that there were moves by the church to change the initial statement of Ann at the hospital.

Meanwhile, CAP's Pastor Maduka King has refuted any allegation that Dr. King was responsible for the burning of his church members.

He said that if anyone had burnt anybody it was those making the allegation that should be held responsible.

His words: "No one had been burnt to death. If they say it, where is the body? They should produce the body of a dead person or is that person a spirit?"

He claimed that those peddling all the wrong information were disgruntled people who were sponsored to pull down 'the kingdom.'

More about Xtians

okay ...... I will have to admit the last post was a little bigoted. Not all Xtians are perverts. There are some very liberal good Christians that seek to follow the teaching of Christ. They are the liberals.

My problem with them at the moment is that they seem so beaten down. Where are they? Why don't they speak up? Why so quiet? We need you all to make a stand. It is like we are living in pre-war Nazi Germany, and no one is speaking up.

Time for the true followers of Christ (not Mel "Fucking Jew" Xtian bigot) to speak up.
This is the time to be counted.

Christians are just perverts

They are either drunk like Mel Gibson, or trying to molest children. I am sick of their holier than thou attitudes. Time to call them on their sins. South Park had it right about Mel.

Pastor resigns from state integrity commission following arrest

Update 12:34 pm

By CRIS BARRISH
The News Journal
08/01/2006

The chairman of Delaware’s Public Integrity Commission, a Presbysterian pastor arrested twice last month for allegations including stalking, burglary and drunken driving, has resigned his government post.

The Rev. P. David Brumbaugh, 53, of Dover, was appointed in April 2004 by Gov. Ruth Ann Minner to the seven-member board. The board rules on ethical issues involving state and some local officials, and collects financial disclosure statements from lobbyists, lawmakers and top state officials.

Minner received Brumbaugh’s two-sentence resignation letter today.

Brumbaugh was arrested July 16 for drunken driving after allegedly crashing into a parked car in the Dover neighborhood of a female friend and congregant who had rebuffed his romantic advances. Ten days later, he was charged with stalking the woman, breaking into her home and being drunk when officers found him parked out front.

Late last week, after media reports about his arrests, Brumbaugh was placed on paid administrative leave for two months by Dover Presbyterian Church, where he has served as pastor for seven years.

He also has enrolled in a 28-day residential treatment program for alcohol addiction, said the Rev. James L. Moseley, executive presbyter of the New Castle Presbytery, which oversees five congregations in Delaware and Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Commissioners, who meet monthly, are paid $100 daily when they meet plus expenses.

“It is with profound regret that I hereby tender my resignation from the Public Integrity Commission, effective immediately,’’ Brumbaugh wrote. “It was an honor to serve with such a dedicated group of commissioners and staff.’’

Minner could not immediately be reached for comment.

Great Hills Baptist Church official accused of sexually assaulting teen

By Claire Osborn
AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
Tuesday, August 01, 2006

The minister of education at Austin's Great Hills Baptist Church has been accused by police of luring a 15-year-old boy into his car at a bus stop and sexually assaulting him.

Austin police said Jerry Dale Carver, 51 was arrested Monday at his home and charged with sexual assault of a child in connection with the July 25 incident. The second-degree felony carries a maximum punishment of 20 years in prison. He was released from the Travis County Jail on $20,000 bail and could not be reached for comment.

According to an arrest affidavit, the teen initially told police that three men forced him into a car at knifepoint, then sexually assaulted him. Later, he told police that Carver had assaulted him and that he'd made up the story of the three assailants "because he was embarrassed by what happened," the affidavit said.

Carver told police that the teen got into his vehicle willingly and initiated sexual contact with him, the affidavit said.

It's the second time Austin police have accused a leader at Great Hills Baptist of sexually assaulting a teenager. In 1999, youth minister Charles Richard "Rick" Willits was sentenced to 15 years in prison for indecency with a child after a jury found him guilty of sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy he met at church.

A secretary for Great Hills pastor Michael Lewis said the church had no comment. Lewis did not return phone calls seeking comment this morning.

Police said Carver offered the 15-year-old a ride while the teen was at a bus stop at Parmer Lane and Metric Boulevard at about 3:30 p.m. July 25. Police said the boy didn't know Carver, but got into his vehicle. Police said Carver "engaged him in inappropriate conversation and physical contact," then grabbed the boy when he tried to get out of the vehicle.

"The suspect drove the victim to a park near the 11600 block of MoPac and sexually assaulted him," before driving the victim home, police said in a written statement.
According to the affidavit, the teen told officers that Carver called him three days after the incident and asked for permission to come to the teen's home. The teen agreed, and when Carver arrived, the teen and a friend struck Carver and his vehicle with a baseball bat, the affidavit said. When police arrived, all three agreed to go to the department's child abuse unit and provide statements to officers, the affidavit said.

Police said they believe there may be other victims and ask anyone with information to call the child abuse tip line at 974-6880.
