Pastor arrested on sodomy charges

MOBILE -- The pastor of a small Washington County church has been arrested and charged with second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy for an incident that allegedly occurred nearly 10 years ago with a 15-year-old girl.

The Rev. Leonard Frazier, 55, of Stonewall Baptist Church near Chatom, was arrested and released from Mobile County Metro Jail on $15,000 bail, according to jail records.

The alleged victim is now in her mid-20s, said Mobile County assistant district attorney Steve Giardini.

Youth Pastor Arrested

DENVER -- A former youth pastor at a Longmont, Colo., church remained jailed Friday under a $1 million bond after he was accused of having sex with a teen from the church and ignoring court orders to stay away from children.

Judge John Stavely issued the high bond for Peter Kim after learning of Kim's four alleged bond violations in the past year.

Prosecutors asked for $250,000 bond for each violation after learning of an alleged relationship between Kim and the teenage daughter of a female friend.

Prosecutor Adrian Vannice told the court Thursday that Kim picks the girl up from school and takes her to lunch, according to a story in Friday's Boulder Daily Camera.

"This is classic grooming behavior on the part of Mr. Kim," Vannice told the court. "The people believe Mr. Kim presents a significant risk to the community."

Kim was arrested in October 2006 after a woman told her therapist that she had a three-year sexual relationship with him while she was underage and attending Central Presbyterian Church in Longmont. Kim was a youth pastor at the church.

Kim's lawyer, Steve Louth, was not at Thursday's hearing but earlier called Kim's actions involving the girl a "bad dating decision."

The case was heard by a jury in November, but the jury deadlocked. A new trial was set for next summer.

According to the Camera, Kim has a prior misdemeanor conviction for having a relationship with a teen he met while working with children at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church a decade ago.

Music minister arrested on incest allegations

DENVER — The music minister at the Heritage Christian Center was arrested Thursday after a 15-year-old relative accused him of sexually assaulting her, the Arapahoe County sheriff said.

James Howard Brown, 38, was arrested for investigation of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, displaying a pattern of sexual assault on a child and aggravated incest.

He was being held under $50,000 bail. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.

Sheriff J. Grayson Robinson said there was a disturbance at Brown’s home Thursday morning after the girl told relatives Brown had assaulted her, prompting Brown’s wife to call authorities.

“It doesn’t appear that there are other victims at this time, though we are still investigating,” Robinson said.

Garret Leonard, executive pastor at Heritage Christian Center, said Brown has been relieved of his duties.

“We will assess the situation as more details become available. We will continue to pray for all parties involved in this situation,” Leonard said in a statement.

The Denver church has more than 10,000 members. Brown was the director of the church choir’s first album “Send It Down,” recorded in 2001.

Cold Spring pastor arrested on gun charges

COLD SPRING - A pastor at a Cold Spring church was arrested on two counts of carrying a concealed weapon on Christmas Eve.

According to the Cold Spring Police Department, Johnny R. Coleman, 1069 Parkside Drive, Alexandria, the pastor of Christ Baptist Church in Cold Spring, was arrested after police found him at 12:30 p.m. with a loaded Glock 9mm handgun and a loaded .25 caliber handgun, in a briefcase at the Mr. Spotless Car Wash in Cold Spring.

Cold Spring Police Chief Ed Burk III confirmed Coleman is a pastor at the church.

According to the police report, Coleman told an officer he was in line for a car wash when he was cut off by another person. According the report, "Mr. Coleman stated he told the victim someone could get shot over this."

The person who allegedly cut Coleman off told police he believed he saw Coleman loading the hand gun, according to the police report

Coleman was arrested and taken to the Campbell County Detention Center and released the same day on his own recognizance.

Coleman could not immediately be reached for comment.

A woman who answered the phone at Christ Baptist Church, who declined to give her name, said Coleman was out of town for the holidays.

Christ Baptist Church was started in 2004 by former members of First Baptist Church of Cold Spring after suspicions arose that church money had been used improperly by former pastor Larry Davis.

Kidnapping in God’s Name by His ‘Ministers’

The holy book says the love of money is the root of all evil. It also says that only God fully understands the heart of man. These wise sayings were glaringly brought to the fore in Kaduna by two pastors of a church who fell so much in love with the desire to make quick money, that not content with the weekly offering and other sources of money that come into the till, decided to go a step beyond the realm of absurdity into the unimaginable by kidnapping a six-year old son of one of their members. They asked for N800, 000 ransom from the parents, or they would kill the child.

This drama which recently unfolded in Kaduna, had Pastors Godwin Ahme, a 35-year-old man from Olumiri local government area of Benue state, and Joseph Bako, an Ikulu man from Zangon Kataf local government area of Kaduna, who together with two other accomplices, Mr. Giwa Joseph, a retired army sergeant and Danlami Sabo, a pure water seller, hatched the plot to make money out of one of their members, Mr. Sylvester Ogbe, whom they perceived to be rich since he works with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Benin, Edo state.

The plot, as narrated by Pastor Godwin Ahme, who together with all the three others are cooling their heels at the Kaduna State Police command after being paraded by Haz Iwendi, the new Commissioner of Police in Kaduna state, entailed kidnapping six-year old Friday Ogbe Jnr, a pupil of Classical International Nursery and Primary School Ungwan Romi, a suburb of Kaduna, and demanding the sum of N800, 000 from his father. Ironically, the parents of the child are strong members of the Methodist Church Ungwan Romi, where the pastors are shepherding.

The father of the child who spoke to THISDAY at the police headquarters Kaduna said Pastor Ahme has been a good friend of the family, who regularly comes to his house in Ungwan Romi, where they eat together and most times gives Ahme money whenever he is about to go home. He added that they are from the same tribe in Benue and he knows Ahme’s father and mother , only for him, as the father put it, “to turn around and kidnapped his six-year-old son.”

Ahme, who just completed the mandatory one-year probation period as a pastor at the Ungwan Romi branch of the Methodist church Kaduna met with Pastor Joseph Bako at the Methodist Theological College Zonkwa in Kaduna where their friendship started. After graduation, Pastor Ahme was posted to Kaduna while; Joseph was posted to Keffi, in Nassarawa state. Shortly after Joseph resumed at the Keffi branch of the church he was suspended from the church for monetary offences. He came down to Kaduna while still on suspension, met with his old friend, Pastor Ahme who allegedly co-opted him into the kidnapping plan, which he initially refused to be part of, but later changed his mind.

Sounding remorseful and waxing still spiritual, Pastor Ahme, in the company of the other three members of his group, gave a detailed account of how the plot was hatched and executed.

“I want to start by advising people not to try and be ahead of God but rather allow God to be ahead of them. The boys’ parents used to be my church members when I was with them. I am very close to them as I often go to their house whenever the father is in town. They did no harm to me. I was the one who initiated the idea to kidnap the son. It was not to hurt the father or the son but to make some money from the parents due to some financial difficulties. But God said no to me, this would not work because the family had not done any wrong to you.

“I involved my colleague, Pastor Joseph Bako who bought the idea of the kidnapping after initially saying no. He was the one that picked the boy at his school and took him to where we hid him in Mararaban Rido village in Chikun local government. We then contacted the father and told him to pay the money into an account number we gave him”

Danlami Sabo works with a sachet water company. He was the one who was told to open a savings account at the Kaduna South branch of Oceanic Bank so as to have an account that the father would pay the ransom. He also narrated the part he played in the whole drama. “Pastor Ahme came to my working place and told me that since I have gotten work now it would be better for me to have a savings account so that I would be keeping some money aside. I told him that I don’t have money to open an account and he loaned me N2000 to open the account. Later he told me that Pastor Bako who has travelled would be sending some money into my account, which he asked me to withdraw and give it to him. We went to the bank the first day but there was no money. The next day he came to my working place again around 9am and told me that Pastor Bako has informed him that the money is in the account and that we should go and remove it. I took excuse from my working place and we went to the bank. It was while we were waiting for the bank officials to check my account that I and Pastor Godwin were arrested inside the bank premises.”

Retired Sergeant Joseph Giwa in whose house the child was kept at Mararaban Rido while the ugly scenario played out said, “I was working in the farm when Pastor Joseph Bako came and met me in the farm. I am a friend of his father and we are from the same village. He told me that he was looking for plots of land, one for him and his friend. I told him that anytime he has money he should come. I even showed him some plots. He then left and I continued working. In the evening I went back home and met Pastor Bako in my house together with a child. I asked him who he is and he said he is his brother’s son. I bathed and went out. Later when I came back the child was still around, but Bako had left. I asked my wife where Bako had gone to and said she doesn’t know. I then asked the child whether he knows Bako and he said yes. I also asked him whether Bako knows his father and mother and the child said yes, which was why I didn’t even bother to raise any alarm,” he explained.

The father of the child, Sylvester Ogbe who told THISDAY that he has forgiven Ahme and his gang based on his Christian faith also narrated how the kidnappers contacted him. “I was in Benin when I got a call from somebody on my cell phone saying that they have traced my house and I should be ready. I just laughed. The next day, I got another call on my phone and the person said that I should listen carefully. He said he called me the previous day and I laughed at him. He then said ‘today we have traced your house and we are with junior your son now. Call your family to confirm it.’ I then called my other son in Kaduna and told him to quickly rush to junior’s school to find out whether he is there. He later called me and said that junior isn’t in school and that his ‘aunt’ in school said that somebody came and took him from the school by telling her that his father said he should be taken to a tailor where his measurement for his Christmas clothes would be taken. I then told my son to call the school and tell them that my son has been kidnapped.

He continued: “I then called the number of the kidnapper and I said ‘Mr. man, my son isn’t in school which means he is with you.’ the man said yes and told me that if I cooperate, I would see my son back but if I try anything stupid I will be sorry. He then told me that I should pay N800, 000 into an Oceanic Bank account number. I told him to give me the number but he refused saying that when I have the money he would give me the number. I called him after some times and told him that I have N600, 000 but he refused to give me the number saying until I have the complete money. I went to Oceanic Bank in Benin and told them everything and they adviced me not to pay the money but that I should write an application letter so that they would circulate the information to all their branches in the country.

“I then called my wife in Kaduna and told her that I would be coming back and instructed her to inform the police about the development. The police went to the court and got permission and then went to the bank. They then told me to tell the kidnapper that I have the complete money and ready to pay. I called the man and told him so. He gave me the account number, which I gave the police and they then got the passport of the account holder. They waited in the bank and when he showed up they arrested him, and all this while, I never imagined that my pastor was the one behind the kidnapping.” He added that the police traced the house where the child was being kept and arrested Giwa together with Bako.

Presently, Ogbe junior has been reunited with his family after undergoing some tests at the hospital. His mother whose eyes are still red from days of crying told THISDAY that she would always pray not to go through the same experience again. She expressed happiness at the way the whole saga ended; while the father concluded by saying he still found it hard to believe that a pastor would kidnap his son.

The four hoodlums are with the police now and waiting for justice to be done. But the question on the lips of everybody at the Kaduna State Police Command is; what if the father had refused to agree to pay the money, would the pastors have been willing to kill the child as earlier threatened? Only God can tell.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (CBS) ― A married pastor pleaded guilty Friday and was sentenced to two years in prison for having sex in his church office with a 16-year-old female parishioner and violating a court order forbidding him from seeing her, an official said.

Ronald Hernandez Tovar, 57, of Placentia, pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, oral copulation of a minor, sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of disobeying a court order, said Farrah Emami of the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Tovar had been free on $100,000 bail pending trial on the sex charges that occurred between Aug. 1, 2006, and Dec. 31. He was arrested last month when he drove to Montclair and met the girl in a church parking lot, then drove her to her home, where police who had been following him arrested him, Emami said.

During a subsequent search, officers found a video that had been taped by Tovar of the victim having sex with another man, Emami said.

The first time he violated the court order preventing him from seeing the girl was in July, when he was seen by a friend of the girl's mother sitting on a bus bench with the girl, Emami said.

Tovar, who is pastor of The Shadow of the Almighty church in Stanton, had sex with the girl on multiple occasions and different locations, including his church office in Anaheim Hills.

Pastor pleads not guilty to child molestation

A pastor accused of raping two girls at a daycare center he ran out of his Ferndale home with his wife years ago faced a judge on Friday.

The judge ordered Patrick Conway, 74, now of Granite Falls to stay away from the two girls who claim he molested and raped them on several occasions years ago.

"Otherwise you're the one who's very likely to be arrested," the judge told Conway.

Conway, a grandfather and pastor, pleaded not guilty to the charges of child rape and child molestation.

Investigators said the attacks took place when the girls were 5 and 10 years old, but the allegations surfaced just recently after the girls confided them in a school counselor.

According to court documents, one of the girls claims Conway waited for her outside the bathroom then held her against her will.

"At this point, they're still being investigated and we don't really know what's going on in this case," said Starck Follies, Conway's attorney. "Obviously we don't want to rush to judgement in a case like this."

The allegations have not been substantiated, but those close to Conway say they were shocked simply to hear them.

Thelma Gaeriety, who knew Conway as her church pastor for years, said she could not believe the allegations.

"He was friendly and got along with everybody and was kind with everybody," she said.

Gaeriety said Conway seemed like a trustworthy man.

"Well, I though so. Everybody thought so," she said.

Conway has no criminal history, but investigators fear there may be other alleged victims who have yet to come forward.

Church not forthcoming with info

Lake County Sheriff's Office detectives will be meeting with a Wauconda church pastor and his legal advisor today in an effort to get more information about students that were taught by a former counselor arrested for sex offenses.

Zachary Carlson, 17, of 400 N. Main St., Wauconda, is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail on two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony, and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

Carlson was working as a counselor at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25225 W. Ivanhoe Road, Wauconda, in August when he allegedly had sexual contact four times with an 8-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl. Both children reported the incidents to their parents.

Carlson was arrested on a warrant last week at Wauconda High School. If convicted, he could be sentenced to more than 60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Detectives said the church has not notified the Department of Children and Family Services and there has been trouble getting information from the church, said Det. Wendall Russell.

Russell said he will be meeting with Pastor Charles Merkner and his legal advisor Thursday, but will have in hand three subpoenas from the grand jury requesting information from the church.

The church issued a press release stating that the families and children of the church are its highest priority and it is very concerned about the allegations. The release also said they are cooperating fully and will follow a policy of openness and complete disclosure.

Church leader arrested

Peter Kim apparently thought his appearance in Boulder County District Court on Thursday morning would be a routine rescheduling of a hearing for an alleged bond violation stemming from his arrest on sexual assault charges.

But, after a judge reset Kim's bond-violation hearing for Jan. 4, a prosecutor asked that Kim be held for 15 minutes because there was a new warrant for his arrest. Deputy District Attorney Adrian Vannice said Kim's bond had been revoked -- triggering the arrest warrant -- after he was jailed in November on suspicion of violating the conditions of his bond for the third time.

"What am I waiting for?" Kim, 40, asked the court.

"Apparently the district court signed an order for your arrest on a bond violation," Boulder County Judge Noel E. Blum explained. "You can't leave until we clear this up."

Kim, who has been free on bond, whispered with his parents in the public section of the courtroom until Vannice returned a short time later with the signed order for Kim's arrest. As he was handcuffed, Kim's mother wept openly and his father choked back tears.

"I don't know what's going on," Kim's father said after his son was taken to the Boulder County Jail.

Kim's attorney, Steve Louth, said two arrests can stem from one bond violation: A person can be jailed for the crime they're suspected of committing by violating the terms of their bond; and the person can be arrested again when their bond is revoked.

Kim's new bond is set at $50,000, but that might change -- along with the conditions of his bond -- when he's back in court today.

Kim is accused of sexually assaulting a child he met at a Longmont church -- a case that resulted in a deadlocked jury in November. His bond-violation arrest came days after his trial ended.

He was booked on suspicion of violating the terms of his bond by being around minors other than his own children at Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette. His other two bond-violation arrests came after police said he went to his children's elementary school holiday celebration and school sporting events.

Kim posted bond in all three of those arrests. He also posted a $150,000 bond in connection with the original sexual-assault charges.

He's expected to be tried again in June on charges of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust after prosecutors said he had a sexual relationship between January 2001 and January 2004 with a minor he met at Longmont's Central Presbyterian Church, where he was a youth pastor.

Kim has a prior misdemeanor conviction for having a relationship with a teen he met while working with children at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church about 10 years ago.

Why the Christian God is Impossible

by Chad Docterman

Introduction

Christians consider the existence of their God to be an obvious truth that no sane man could deny. I strongly disagree with this assumption not only because evidence for the existence of this presumably ubiquitous yet invisible God is lacking, but because the very nature Christians attribute to this God is self-contradictory.

Proving a Universal Negative

It is taken for granted by Christians, as well as many atheists, that a universal negative cannot be proven. In this case, that universal negative is the statement that the Christian God does not exist. One would have to have omniscience, they say, in order to prove that anything does not exist. I disagree with this position, however, because omniscience is not needed in order to prove that a thing whose nature is a self-contradiction cannot, and therefore does not exist.

I do not need a complete knowledge of the universe to prove to you that cubic spheres do not exist. Such objects have mutually-exclusive attributes which would render their existence impossible. For example, a cube, by definition, has 8 corners, while a sphere has none. These properties are completely incompatible: they cannot be held simultaneously by the same object. It is my intent to show that the supposed properties of the Christian God Yahweh, like those of a cubic sphere, are incompatible, and by so doing, to show Yahweh's existence to be an impossibility.

Defining YHWH

Before we can discuss the existence of a thing, we must define it. Christians have endowed their God with all of the following attributes: He is eternal, all-powerful, and created everything. He created all the laws of nature and can change anything by an act of will. He is all-good, all-loving, and perfectly just. He is a personal God who experiences all of the emotions a human does. He is all-knowing. He sees everything past and future.

God's creation was originally perfect, but humans, by disobeying him, brought imperfection into the world. Humans are evil and sinful, and must suffer in this world because of their sinfulness. God gives humans the opportunity to accept forgiveness for their sin, and all who do will be rewarded with eternal bliss in heaven, but while they are on earth, they must suffer for his sake. All humans who choose not to accept this forgiveness must go to hell and be tormented for eternity.

One Bible verse which Christians are fond of quoting says that atheists are fools. I intend to show that the above concepts of God are completely incompatible and so reveal the impossibility of all of them being true. Who is the fool? The fool is the one who believes impossible things and calls them divine mysteries.

Perfection Seeks Even More Perfection

What did God do during that eternity before he created everything? If God was all that existed back then, what disturbed the eternal equilibrium and compelled him to create? Was he bored? Was he lonely? God is supposed to be perfect. If something is perfect, it is complete--it needs nothing else. We humans engage in activities because we are pursuing that elusive perfection, because there is disequilibrium caused by a difference between what we are and what we want to be. If God is perfect, there can be no disequilibrium. There is nothing he needs, nothing he desires, and nothing he must or will do. A God who is perfect does nothing except exist. A perfect creator God is impossible.

Perfection Begets Imperfection

But, for the sake of argument, let's continue. Let us suppose that this perfect God did create the universe. Humans were the crown of his creation, since they were created in God's image and have the ability to make decisions. However, these humans spoiled the original perfection by choosing to disobey God.

What!? If something is perfect, nothing imperfect can come from it. Someone once said that bad fruit cannot come from a good tree, and yet this "perfect" God created a "perfect" universe which was rendered imperfect by the "perfect" humans. The ultimate source of imperfection is God. What is perfect cannot become imperfect, so humans must have been created imperfect. What is perfect cannot create anything imperfect, so God must be imperfect to have created these imperfect humans. A perfect God who creates imperfect humans is impossible.

The Freewill Argument

The Christians' objection to this argument involves freewill. They say that a being must have freewill to be happy. The omnibenevolent God did not wish to create robots, so he gave humans freewill to enable them to experience love and happiness. But the humans used this freewill to choose evil, and introduced imperfection into God's originally perfect universe. God had no control over this decision, so the blame for our imperfect universe is on the humans, not God.

Here is why the argument is weak. First, if God is omnipotent, then the assumption that freewill is necessary for happiness is false. If God could make it a rule that only beings with freewill may experience happiness, then he could just as easily have made it a rule that only robots may experience happiness. The latter option is clearly superior, since perfect robots will never make decisions which could render them or their creator unhappy, whereas beings with freewill could. A perfect and omnipotent God who creates beings capable of ruining their own happiness is impossible.

Second, even if we were to allow the necessity of freewill for happiness, God could have created humans with freewill who did not have the ability to choose evil, but to choose between several good options.

Third, God supposedly has freewill, and yet he does not make imperfect decisions. If humans are miniature images of God, our decisions should likewise be perfect. Also, the occupants of heaven, who presumably must have freewill to be happy, will never use that freewill to make imperfect decisions. Why would the originally perfect humans do differently?

The point remains: the presence of imperfections in the universe disproves the supposed perfection of its creator.

All-good God Knowingly Creates Future Suffering

God is omniscient. When he created the universe, he saw the sufferings which humans would endure as a result of the sin of those original humans. He heard the screams of the damned. Surely he would have known that it would have been better for those humans to never have been born (in fact, the Bible says this very thing), and surely this all-compassionate deity would have foregone the creation of a universe destined to imperfection in which many of the humans were doomed to eternal suffering. A perfectly compassionate being who creates beings which he knows are doomed to suffer is impossible.

Infinite Punishment for Finite Sins

God is perfectly just, and yet he sentences the imperfect humans he created to infinite suffering in hell for finite sins. Clearly, a limited offense does not warrant unlimited punishment. God's sentencing of the imperfect humans to an eternity in hell for a mere mortal lifetime of sin is infinitely more unjust than this punishment. The absurd injustice of this infinite punishment is even greater when we consider that the ultimate source of human imperfection is the God who created them. A perfectly just God who sentences his imperfect creation to infinite punishment for finite sins is impossible.

Belief More Important Than Action

Consider all of the people who live in the remote regions of the world who have never even heard the "gospel" of Jesus Christ. Consider the people who have naturally adhered to the religion of their parents and nation as they had been taught to do since birth. If we are to believe the Christians, all of these people will perish in the eternal fire for not believing in Jesus. It does not matter how just, kind, and generous they have been with their fellow humans during their lifetime: if they do not accept the gospel of Jesus, they are condemned. No just God would ever judge a man by his beliefs rather than his actions.

Perfection's Imperfect Revelation

The Bible is supposedly God's perfect Word. It contains instructions to humankind for avoiding the eternal fires of hell. How wonderful and kind of this God to provide us with this means of overcoming the problems for which he is ultimately responsible! The all-powerful God could have, by a mere act of will, eliminated all of the problems we humans must endure, but instead, in his infinite wisdom, he has opted to offer this indecipherable amalgam of books which is the Bible as a means for avoiding the hell which he has prepared for us. The perfect God has decided to reveal his wishes in this imperfect work, written in the imperfect language of imperfect man, translated, copied, interpreted, voted on, and related by imperfect man.

No two men will ever agree what this perfect word of God is supposed to mean, since much of it is either self- contradictory, or obscured by enigmatic symbols. And yet the perfect God expects us imperfect humans to understand this paradoxical riddle using the imperfect minds with which he has equipped us. Surely the all-wise and all-powerful God would have known that it would have been better to reveal his perfect will directly to each of us, rather than to allow it to be debased and perverted by the imperfect language and botched interpretations of man.

Contradictory Justice

One need look to no source other than the Bible to discover its imperfections, for it contradicts itself and thus exposes its own imperfection. It contradicts itself on matters of justice, for the same just God who assures his people that sons shall not be punished for the sins of their fathers turns around and destroys an entire household for the sin of one man (he had stolen some of Yahweh's war loot). It was this same Yahweh who afflicted thousands of his innocent people with plague and death to punish their evil king David for taking a census (?!). It was this same Yahweh who allowed the humans to slaughter his son because the perfect Yahweh had botched his own creation. Consider how many have been stoned, burned, slaughtered, raped, and enslaved because of Yahweh's skewed sense of justice. The blood of innocent babies is on the perfect, just, compassionate hands of Yahweh.

Contradictory History

The Bible contradicts itself on matters of history. A person who reads and compares the contents of the Bible will be confused about exactly who Esau's wives were, whether Timnah was a concubine or a son, and whether Jesus' earthly lineage is through Solomon or his brother Nathan. These are but a few of hundreds of documented historical contradictions. If the Bible cannot confirm itself in mundane earthly matters, how are we to trust it on moral and spiritual matters?

Unfulfilled Prophecy

The Bible misinterprets its own prophecies. Read Isaiah 7 and compare it to Matthew 1 to find but one of many misinterpreted prophecies of which Christians are either passively or willfully ignorant. The fulfillment of prophecy in the Bible is cited as proof of its divine inspiration, and yet here is but one major example of a prophecy whose intended meaning has been and continues to be twisted to support subsequent absurd and false doctrines. There are no ends to which the credulous will not go to support their feeble beliefs in the face of compelling evidence against them.

The Bible is imperfect. It only takes one imperfection to destroy the supposed perfection of this alleged Word of God. Many have been found. A perfect God who reveals his perfect will in an imperfect book is impossible.

The Omniscient Changes the Future

A God who knows the future is powerless to change it. An omniscient God who is all-powerful and freewilled is impossible.

The Omniscient is Surprised

A God who knows everything cannot have emotions. The Bible says that God experiences all of the emotions of humans, including anger, sadness, and happiness. We humans experience emotions as a result of new knowledge. A man who had formerly been ignorant of his wife's infidelity will experience the emotions of anger and sadness only after he has learned what had previously been hidden. In contrast, the omniscient God is ignorant of nothing. Nothing is hidden from him, nothing new may be revealed to him, so there is no gained knowledge to which he may emotively react.

We humans experience anger and frustration when something is wrong which we cannot fix. The perfect, omnipotent God, however, can fix anything. Humans experience longing for things we lack. The perfect God lacks nothing. An omniscient, omnipotent, and perfect God who experiences emotion is impossible.

The Conclusion of the matter

I have offered arguments for the impossibility, and thus the non- existence, of the Christian God Yahweh. No reasonable and freethinking individual can accept the existence of a being whose nature is so contradictory as that of Yahweh, the "perfect" creator of our imperfect universe. The existence of Yahweh is as impossible as the existence of cubic spheres or invisible pink unicorns.

Should any Christian who reads this persist in defending these impossibilities through means of "divine transcendence" and "faith," and should any Christian continue to call me an atheist fool, I will be forced to invoke the wrath of the Invisible Pink Unicorn:

"You are a fool for denying the existence of the IPU. You have rejected true faith and have relied on your feeble powers of human reason and thus arrogantly denied the existence of Her Divine Transcendence, and so are you condemned."

If such arguments are good enough for Yahweh, they are good enough for Her Invisible Pinkness.

As for me and my house, we shall choose reality.

Youth Pastor Arrested

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) -- WAVE 3 has learned that a man who is a local high school wrestling coach, a substitute teacher and a youth minister has been arrested. The Bullitt County Sheriff's Department says the Shepherdsville man sexually abused a 15 year old girl at the church. WAVE 3 Investigator Scott Harvey has the details.

We had a chance to speak to the victim's mother who -- obviously distraught -- described 25-year-old Clayton Pruett as a wolf in sheep's clothing. She now has a strong warning for all parents.

"Don't trust people that are alone with your children," said the woman, who asked not to be identified. She says her daughter was the victim of sexual abuse, for more than a year.

"I didn't listen to the little things my daughter was telling me," she said. "That's because I trusted him."

Pruett worked as a youth minister at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Shepherdsville where investigators say he trapped the 15 year old girl inside a room and abused her.

Detective Scotty McGaha said, "Jobs that he has, he's definitely a role model. Unfortunately, he abused that power."

WAVE 3 discovered Pruett also works as an assistant wrestling coach and substitute teacher at Bullitt Central High School. Officials there say he is suspended without pay, depending on the outcome of the investigation.

"Had our church reacted to it, when we reported it to them, a lot of things that she has encountered since, wouldn't have happened to her," said the 15-year-old victim's mother.

The young girl's mother told me, they reported Pruett to the Pastor at Pleasant Grove several months ago. When I asked Pastor Von Smith about that, he denied it.

"Nothing was reported of any sexual misconduct and such, until in the past few days, when we had gotten that word," Smith said.

Now this concerned mother worries for other children who have been alone with Pruett.

"Everybody talk to your children," she said. "If your children have been around this man, and make sure that nothing has happened to them."

Pruett is charged with first degree sexual abuse, but investigators say more charges could be filed later.

From a Christian

Don Boys, Ph.D.

It is almost obscene to think that there are people in Bible oriented churches every Sunday who sexually abuse children; however, it is true even in evangelical and fundamental churches! Yes, Virginia, we have sexual child abusers in our best churches! I had read in mainline media that at least 30% of adult women had been molested in their younger days, but I did not believe it was a valid number. Surely, that was propaganda from the screaming feminists. I discovered that I was wrong.

It is a fact that one-third of all children are sexually abused before age 18: About 40% of all females and 30% of males! That number seemed to be impossibly high; however, my wife and I did a national two-year survey during our Christian Couples’ Conferences in Bible teaching churches, and discovered that the number is right on target.

In the last year or so, I have been outraged by the “soft” approach many pastors take toward sexual abuse of children. One example is the Bob Gray case in Jacksonville where the pastor, a friend of mine, admitted to French-kissing little girls in his Christian school. His large church slapped his wrists in a mockery of church discipline and sent him to Germany as a missionary. He should have gone to jail, not Germany. During a visit to the states in May of 06, he was arrested and died November 11, 2007, just before his trial was to begin. His church still refuses to admit their unseemly, untoward, and unscriptural handling of the sin. Gray’s many victims are seeking satisfaction in civil action that could cost the church millions of dollars if a cover-up is proved in court.

One must keep in mind that all sexual abusers of children do not always go on to violent sexual abuse. That is probably true with Bob Gray who admitted to “French-kissing” little girls but strongly denied anything more. Abusers reason “this” to be not as bad as “that,” not acknowledging the seriousness to the victim; however, sexual abuse is any sexual contact with a child or the use of a child for the sexual pleasure of someone else.

Most pastors are shocked to hear that sexual child abuse is prevalent in their churches. They do not know that fact or do not believe that fact, or have chosen to ignore that fact. To recognize the frequency of sexual child abuse, pastors would be forced to deal with it.

Think about it: in each church service, there are men (and maybe some women) who have molested or are molesting a child usually multiple children! Surveys reveal that most child sexual abusers attend church, even your church! Many of those men are viewers of attractive, alluring, and addictive pornography that is affordable, anonymous, and accessible that feeds and promotes their sexual assaults. And most pastors are saying nothing about it! Those same preachers often boast about preaching the truth and standing for family values and personal morality but don’t hone in where the preaching hurts, or helps and heals!

There are many reasons why there is little preaching about sexual child abuse. It is an unpleasant subject. It can make people uncomfortable. We like to think “our crowd” may eat too much from time to time, snatch a peek at some television filth, skip church for a special ball game, or even smoke a cigarette occasionally. But sexual abuse of children? No way, not in “our” congregation. A pastor who thinks like that is willfully ignorant—headed for trouble.

Why do many pastors who boast about “preaching the whole Bible” never preach on sexual sins? Many reasons. First, they may be careless or thoughtless. Second, they may be guilty themselves. Third, they may know they are preaching to powerful members who are guilty. Why kick a sleeping dog that might bite you? Or maybe they are prudes similar to me in my early days when I was uncomfortable saying “pregnant” in the pulpit.

I suggest that all pastors insist that their church board (plus wife, good friends, etc.) hold them accountable for their personal lives and for balance in preaching. Those who are presently involved in sexual sins, especially with children, should not only lose their pulpits, but their freedom. From pulpit to prison! (But sadly, too often back to the pulpit again.)

Transgressing preachers should confess sexual sins today and forsake them. It is astounding that preachers whine, whimper, and weep as they are led away in handcuffs or tremble in anger and fear when reliable evidence is presented during a service about their sexual activities. I have seldom heard of one who can’t live with his secret sins and confesses before he is exposed! Instead, after the exposure he emulates Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, or Ted Haggard!

If, reacting to preaching on sexual child abuse, a man confesses to his pastor that he has sexually assaulted a child, the pastor is obligated to report it to the proper authorities and remove the man from any association with children. Most pastors will be strongly inclined to handle the problem “in house;” however, that is usually illegal and always unwise. One thing that almost all “experts” agree on is that child molesters will continue to molest. I am sure there are exceptions since God will forgive and cleanse a man of all sins—if he is sincere, but are you willing to take the chance that he is sincere? What if the abuser’s next victim is your child or grandchild? What if the victim is killed?

It is time for Protestants and Baptists to stop pointing fingers at the Roman Catholic sex scandal and clean up their own house—church house, that is. No church should ever put anyone on staff, paid or unpaid, who had any involvement in any sexual sins against children. No exceptions. If a former preacher repents and seems to prove his sincerity, he can clean the church, repair buses, act as usher, visit the sick, sing in the choir, etc. Just keep him away from children or youth and out of the pulpit.

To keep himself from temptation and from untrue accusations, a pastor should never counsel anyone alone without an open door or a window in the door. After all, his reputation that has taken a lifetime to build can be lost in a careless moment. Counselors should keep notes on all counseling sessions although realizing that someday a court may demand those notes that I believe should be refused! Stay away from pornography online or off. Permit your wife and assistants to have full access to your mail and your computer.

Committed pastors must raise their voices against this rampant sin of sexual child abuse that is going on in every church. Not to do so makes such a pastor a compromiser, a coward, and a confederate with evil.

Priest and cocain

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (AP) ― A 49-year-old priest was charged Tuesday with cocaine possession following a traffic stop over the weekend.

Father Leonard Van Vlaenderen, pastor of St. John Vianney Parish in Brookfield, was arrested Saturday evening for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, according to a report by St. Francis police. The police said they had received a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Kathleen Hohl, spokeswoman for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, confirmed that Van Vlaenderen was arrested. The archdiocese is working with him on health-related issues, she said.

It also is making sure his parish, one of the largest in the 10-county archdiocese, has access to other pastors, she said.

Van Vlaenderen was due in Milwaukee County court Tuesday afternoon, according to court records.

He has been with the suburban parish since 2002. Van Vlaenderen also served for a decade as personal secretary to now-retired Milwaukee Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland.

Top ten signs your a fundie xtian....

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Never on a Sunday

Thanks to Adult Christianity for this story: Click here to get there

Justin Veal, 18, of Indianapolis, confessed to robbing at least 11 businesses, including liquor stores, gas stations, and restaurants. Though he used a gun, no one was injured.

Veal had a couple of rules. Since he lived with his mother he had to be home by her 1:30 a.m. curfew, and he never robbed a business on Sunday, since that's when he attended church with his mother.

When he was busy robbing stores he told his family he was at the YMCA.

Perhaps if his church had prominently posted the 10 Commandments Veal would have understood that lying and stealing were sins to be avoided.

Pastor in Puyallup charged with child molesting

TACOMA, Wash. -- A pastor in Puyallup has pleaded innocent to four counts of child molesting involving two sisters whose family attends his church.

The Rev. Forrest Lee Hudson, 65, pastor of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, was arrested Friday, posted $100,000 bail and remained free after his arraignment Tuesday in Pierce County Superior Court on first-degree child molestation and three counts of second-degree child molestation.

Judge Vicki L. Hogan ordered Hudson to avoid any contact with anyone under 18 but did not bar him from ministering to his congregation.

According to documents filed by prosecutors in court, Hudson inappropriately touched and kissed the two girls, ages 12 and 13. Defense lawyer Michael E. Schwartz said outside the courtroom he will "vigorously fight" the charges.

Sheriff's detectives began investigating Hudson last week after receiving a report that he was sexually abusing the two sisters, both of whom told a forensic child interviewer he had been molesting them since they were 11 and 12, respectively, and had given them money, jewelry and shoes.

Hudson told Detectives Elizabeth A. Lindt and Mark W. Merod on Friday he worked as a public school teacher in Seattle for 27 years before leaving in 1999 after being accused of inappropriately touching a female student.

He also said he occasionally gave the girls presents and called them girlfriend and "dear heart" but denied fondling either one.

America Cannot Afford Bush's "Success"

Remember when Bush declared "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq? Now he's calling Iraq a "success."

Bush whined, "It's unconscionable to deny funds to our troops in harm's way because some in Congress want to force a self-defeating policy, especially when we're seeing the benefits of success."

The "benefits of success"???

Bush's "success" unleashed chaos that murdered 1 million Iraqis and drove 4 million more out of their homes into desperate poverty. Bush's "success" created a sectarian Shia government that ethnically cleansed Baghdad of Sunnis and Christians and corruptly lined its pockets with our tax dollars. Bush's "success" killed nearly 4,000 brave young Americans and maimed tens of thousands more, both physically and mentally, leading to 120 veterans' suicides each week. Bush's "success" broke our military, corrupted our intelligence agencies, and embraced torture as official U.S. policy.

Bush's "success" empowered Osama Bin Laden and handed half of Afghanistan back to the Taliban. Bush's "success" empowered dangerous dictators in Russia, Pakistan, Burma, Iran and Venezuela. Bush's "success" increased global terror and hatred of the United States.

Bush's "success" wasted $500 billion on Iraq, with trillions more to come. Bush's "success" added $4 trillion to our national debt and trillions more in future debts. Bush's "success" drove the price of oil from $16/barrel to nearly $100/barrel, and tripled the price of gasoline from $1.06 to $3.11.

America - and the world - cannot afford any more of Bush's "success."

Paper: 8 Men Claim Encounters With Craig

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Eight men say they either had sex with Sen. Larry Craig or were targets of sexual advances by the Idaho lawmaker at various times during his political career, a newspaper reported Sunday.

One of the men is the former escort whose allegations disgraced the Rev. Ted Haggard, former president of the National Association of Evangelicals, the Idaho Statesman reported.

The newspaper identified four men and reported details of the encounters they say involved Craig. It also reported the accounts of four other men who did not agree to be identified but who described sexual advances or encounters involving the conservative Republican, who opposes same-sex marriage and has a strong record against gay rights.

Craig pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after being accused by an undercover officer of soliciting sex at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport and later called a news conference to deny that he is gay.

The newspaper acknowledged that its report was not based on definitive evidence but said it also found no evidence to disprove the accounts of the four identified men. It said it reviewed the senator's travel records, which put him where the sex is alleged to have taken place, and did background checks on those making the allegations.

Craig and members of his staff declined to comment to the newspaper.

But in a statement e-mailed to The Associated Press on Sunday, the senator said the newspaper's report was "completely false" and he accused the paper of careless journalism.

"It is unfortunate that the Idaho Statesman has chosen to continue to lower itself to the standards of what can best be described as tabloid journalism," Craig said in the statement.

"Despite the fact the Idaho Statesman has decided to pursue its own agenda and print these falsehoods without any facts to back them up, I won't let this paper's attempt to malign my name stop me from continuing my work to serve the people of Idaho."

The report is the Statesman's latest on allegations about Craig's sexual background since his June arrest in an airport men's room sex sting operation was reported in late August.

Statesman Editor Vicki Gowler said the newspaper spent several months checking the backgrounds and details of the men's stories.

"We believe it's important for you to know what we've learned and to hear the men's own words," Gowler said.

Two of the identified men and one of the unidentified men told the newspaper they had sex with Craig.

One of the men identified in the report, Mike Jones, 50, described as a former male escort, was the focus of the sex scandal involving Haggard, the disgraced leader of Colorado's New Life Church.

Jones said Craig paid him $200 for sex in late 2004 or early 2005. The encounter took place at a studio apartment in downtown Denver, Jones said.

Jones told the Statesman that he did not recognize Craig until his arrest made the news. The newspaper reported that Jones went on the record after Craig appeared in a television news report in August to address the arrest and his future in politics.

Jones has written a book about his experience with Haggard and acknowledged to the Statesman that his allegation about Craig might help sales. A message left for Jones by The Associated Press through his publisher Sunday evening was not immediately returned.

Amid pressure from top GOP leaders in Washington, Craig announced his intent to resign from the Senate. He later changed his mind, deciding to finish out his term, which expires in January 2009. He is also appealing in Minnesota courts to have his guilty plea overturned.

The undercover police officer who arrested Craig said the senator moved his foot next to the officer's foot and tapped it in a way that indicated he wanted sex. He also alleged the senator sent a signal by swiping his hand under the divider between men's room stalls.

Craig has said the officer misconstrued those motions.
