Baptist youth counselor charged with raping girl

QUINCY - A youth counselor at a Baptist church in Quincy that later merged with a Hull congregation faces a charge he raped a 14-year-old girl who was a member of his Bible study class.

Robert J. Morris Jr., 28, of 141 Commercial St., Braintree, was arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court on a charge of forcible rape of a child. He pleaded innocent and bail was set at $3,000. Police said he has no criminal record.

Morris went to the Quincy police station Friday night where he was arrested after talking to detectives. He was held on $10,000 bail over the weekend.

Quincy police Detective Lt. Patrick Glynn said the alleged victim said Morris raped her multiple times.

The crimes allegedly happened at the youth center of the former Adams Shore Bible Baptist Church, which was in the basement of a building on Hancock Street in Wollaston.

The Rev. Michael L. Cox, the former pastor of Adams Shore Bible Baptist, this morning called Morris “a fine, upstanding young man,” and called the allegations against him “suspicious.”

He said he believes the criminal charges arose out of “personal problems between (Morris) and the family of the girl.”

The Rev. Cox, of Quincy, said the girl’s family left the church about five years ago and that neither she nor her parents “ever mentioned anything like this.”

The Rev. Cox founded the Adams Shore church in 1994. It merged with Tri-Town Baptist Church in Hull in 2004 and the church in Quincy closed. Morris, who continued to run the merged churches’ youth program, arranged to meet with children and teens in the basement of a building on Hancock Street.

The program Morris ran, the Rev. Cox said, consisted mostly of Bible study and song. “It was always a supervised program,” the Rev. Cox said. “There were always other adults in the building.”

Tri-Town Baptist merged with Lighthouse Baptist Church in Holbrook last month, Cox said. Morris is not a youth counselor for the Holbrook-based church, he added.

Cox added that Morris’ mother, with whom he lives in Braintree, and his grandmother were longtime members of the Quincy church.

Minneapolis choir leader accused of sex with teen

A noted Twin Cities gospel singer and church choir director is charged with sexually assaulting a Brooklyn Park teenage girl who sings in the choir, a nearly identical scenario that led to his felony conviction more than five years ago in St. Paul.

Gregory B. Washington, 32, was ordered held Tuesday on $150,000 bail on two counts of third-degree sexual assault, with the condition that he stay away from all females younger than 18. He is on probation from the earlier conviction, for which he was sentenced to 120 days in the workhouse.

A Hennepin County prosecutor drew parallels between the cases Tuesday.

"We're seeing here that the facts are astonishingly similar, in which he leads a young female through the auspices of the church, had sexual relations with the female and eventually had a child with her," Assistant County Attorney Judith Cole said in Hennepin County District Court of Washington's earlier conviction. "It seems to be a pattern for Mr. Washington."

According to the latest charges: The girl was 15 at the time of the alleged assaults last fall, the first at her home and the other at Washington's residence in Plymouth. The sexual encounters were discovered by the girl's mother when the girl said Washington had given her a ring she was wearing. The mother also saw sexually explicit text messages Washington and the girl exchanged.

According to Washington's online biography, he started recording with the awarding-winning gospel ensemble Excelsior, and he has shared the stage with Sheena Easton, Roberta Flack and Sounds of Blackness.

Washington, choir director at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in south Minneapolis, is also director of Voices of Praise, a Minneapolis gospel group. Two pastors at Greater Friendship could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Oder sentenced to 10 years prison

A former 4-H and church youth group adviser was sentenced to the maximum term of 10 years in prison and designated a Tier III sex offender Monday in Champaign County Common Pleas Court.

Leroy B. "Lee" Oder Jr., 63, of St. Paris, pleaded guilty to three counts of gross sexual imposition and one count of rape on Jan. 6. Oder, who was well-known in the local 4-H community as a poultry and rabbit club adviser, was arrested on Oct. 27, 2008, and indicted in November 2008 by a grand jury on one count of rape, two counts of sexual battery, two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and six counts of gross sexual imposition.

The case involved a pattern of conduct with 11 incidents between July and October of 2008 involving a male victim from Oder's church youth group, said Prosecutor Nick Selvaggio.

"It appears the defendant had access to the victim through a position of trust as a church leader involved with the drama club," Selvaggio said. "The victim indicated he had some difficulty with his own home life and the defendant was counseling him. He wrote in a statement, 'At the time, I thought God had put Lee in my life to guide me through a difficult time.' The defendant took advantage of the counseling relationship and did so for his own sexual gratification."

Selvaggio said while Oder initially denied the charges, he later admitted to inappropriate contact with the 15-year-old.

Defense attorney Christopher Bucci said Oder accepts responsibility for his actions.

"I'm sorry for what happened," Oder said, apologizing to the church, his family and the victim. "I've asked God to forgive me. I've ruined my life. I realize that. As a Christian man, I have to face it."

Upon release from prison, Oder will be subject to five years of post-release control and lifetime registration as a sex offender.

Pastor Who Was Attacked Had Criminal Record

FULLERTON, Calif.

A pastor attacked by teens in Fullerton recently is being sent back to jail for violating probation in connection with a lewd conduct conviction.

A Fullerton pastor who was allegedly attacked by gang members at his church a week ago has been ordered to jail for a probation violation stemming from a lewd conduct conviction.

Pastor Willie Ray Holmes, 41, must report to the Orange County Jail on March 6 to begin serving a 360-day sentence, according to the Orange County Register.

Holmes had pleaded guilty to engaging in lewd conduct on Nov. 30, 2006, and was sentenced to three years' probation, the newspaper reported.

On Feb. 4, Holmes pleaded guilty to violating the terms of his probation and was sentenced to 360 days in jail in addition to three years' probation, according to the Register. He was also ordered to stay away from Hillcrest Park in Fullerton. Three days later, Holmes was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure, lewd conduct in a public place and loitering around a public toilet.

Holmes' 49-year-old wife, Vanessa, told the Register she was unaware of her husband's criminal record.

Holmes was attacked at his church, Majesty Christian Fellowship, 421 S. Richman Ave. on Feb. 13. Three teenagers from Fullerton, all believed to be members of a local street gang, were arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon and gang membership in connection with that attack.

Church youth leader accused of secretly videotaping teen boy

BYRON TOWNSHIP -- A 53-year-old church youth leader who donated his personal computer to the church has been arrested and charged with secretly videotaping a teen male in the bathroom of his home, Kent County Sheriff's deputies said today.

Police said the images on David "Randy" Campbell's personal computer were discovered after he donated it to Frontline Bible Church in Byron Township, 8283 Pfeiffer Farms Drive SW.

As the church tried to use the computer, they discovered video footage from two years ago of a youth in Campbell's bathroom. Police interviewed the teen, who was 13 at the time, is not related and was unaware of the camera, sheriff's Lt. Kevin Kelley said.

Campbell was very active with youth group programs at the Frontline church, Kelley said.

"Investigators are trying to determine if there are additional victims," he said.

Police, who searched Campbell's Gaines Township home and confiscated several computers and video recorders, arrested him on Jan. 28.

He was arraigned on Jan. 29 in 63rd District Court in Cascade, charged with one count of capturing/distributing an image of an unclothed person and an additional charge of using a computer to commit a crime, Kelley said. The computer crime is a 10-year offense.

He was released from Kent County Jail after paying a $1,000 cash surety bond.

Kelley asked anyone with information to call Silent Observer, 616-774-2345, or the sheriff's department, 616-632-6100.

Youth Pastor Indicted On 26 Counts Of Sexual Battery

A former youth pastor of Grace Brethren Church on Marion Ave. in Mansfield has been indicted on 26 counts of sexual battery by the Richland County Grand Jury.

John Picard, 41, was indicted last year on 16 counts of sexual battery of two teenage parishioners.

Richland County Assistant Prosecutor Bambi Couch-Page says the new case involves unlawful contact with four victims.

Couch-Page says the incidents range from as far back as Dec. 31, 1993 to March 31, 2008.

She says this has been an on-going investigation for a number of years and more information continues to come in which led to the new charges.

Picard posted bond in his previous case and was arrested last week on the new charges.

If convicted on all counts he could face up 210 years in prison.

The grand jury also indicted Jasen Hicks, 37, of Mansfield on 10 counts of rape, 10 counts of sexual battery and 10 counts of gross sexual imposition.

Couch-Page says five of the rape counts relate to alleged acts involving a female under the age of 13. The other rape counts happened after the victim turned 13.

Big Stone Gap pastor charged with indecent exposure

According to a Bristol Herald Courier report the pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap is facing charges of indecent exposure.

Police say Millard Clifton Tolbert, 58, was arrested after being caught on a video surveillance masturbating in the boys and men’s underwear isle of the Dollar General store in Appalachia.

“There are numerous people in the store on the video," Ron Elkins, Wise County commonwealth’s attorney told the Herald Courier. If someone other that the store manager saw him, we’d certainly like to know that,“

Police responded to the manager’s 911 call and reviewed the surveillance video.

“Thankfully the Dollar General store in Appalachia has a security system that rivals a lot of larger stores, so we have very high quality video,“ said Elkins.

Milford pastor charged with rape

A Milford pastor is under house arrest after she was charged with molesting and raping a 16-year-old congregant over a two-year period, beginning when the girl was 14, prosecutors said.

Ana Almeida, 31, who leads a mostly Brazilian congregation at Plenitude of God Church, pleaded not guilty when she was arraigned Thursday for the rape and four counts of indecent assault and battery of a child older than 14.

Worcester District Attorney spokesman Tim Connolly said Almeida paid $500 bail and was released on house arrest. He said she will remain on house arrest until the court can outfit her with a GPS tracking unit; then, new restrictions will be placed on her.

The victim told police Wednesday that Almeida began molesting her in spring 2006. The victim allegedly told police a total of 11 assaults occurred through 2008, according to court documents.

Reached at home last night, Almeida denied the charges were true but declined to talk further, citing a language barrier. “My English is not so good,” she said.

Youth leader charged with child porn

A Halifax youth group leader has been charged with distributing child pornography.

RCMP arrested Timothy John Tyson, 38, at his Beechville home Friday morning.

Members of the integrated Internet child exploitation unit, armed with a search warrant, seized several computers, including two laptops, two digital video cameras, various documentation and CDs from the States Lane residence.

Mr. Tyson heads up the Twenty 4 Seven youth group at Full Gospel Church on Kearney Lake Road. He was arrested at home.

A parent of one teen who attends the youth group did not want to comment when reached by phone Friday afternoon but expressed concern about whether police had properly reviewed any evidence before charging Mr. Tyson.

Officials with the church could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.

The man’s arrest and subsequent charges are the result of a month-long investigation, said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin.

"This was a job well done by the local unit," he said.

Some of the first charges for exchanging child pornography over the Internet to be laid in this province came in 2003, following a major child porn bust by American authorities in which the names and credit card information of about 60 Nova Scotians turned up in a U.S.-based pornography distribution business.

But that was not the case with the investigation of Mr. Tyson, Cpl. Taplin said.

Information used in this particular investigation was obtained locally, he said, explaining that investigators working undercover actively search the Internet, access chat rooms and various sites.

Asked about the possibility of local victims, Cpl. Taplin said it’s too early to say for sure. He said police have a considerable amount of seized material to review.

"Right now, the investigators don’t believe there’s any local images of kids (but) we’re not ruling it out," Cpl. Taplin said.

According information Mr. Tyson has posted on the Internet, he is a naval weapons technician with the military, is interested in geocaching and travelling and is a heterosexual. On one website, Mr. Tyson says he travelled in 2005 and 2006 to Greenland, Florida, Boston and twice to Nunavut.

Mr. Tyson, who is married, has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court March 26.

Police are continuing to investigate the case and analyze the seized computers.

Son of Dallas’ Pastor T.D. Jakes arrested for indecent exposure

The son of T.D. Jakes — the Dallas megachurch pastor who’s called homosexuality a “brokenness” and declared that he would never hire a sexually active gay person — was arrested in a gay sex sting in Kiest Park in January, according to Dallas police reports.

Jermaine Donnell Jakes, 29, faces a charge of indecent exposure after allegedly exposing himself in front of two undercover vice detectives shortly after 10 p.m. on Jan. 3. Senior Cpl. Janice Crowther, a DPD spokeswoman, confirmed Thursday, Feb. 12 that the detectives were both male.

According to an arrest affidavit, the detectives were conducting an investigation into citizen complaints of sexual activity when they observed Jakes and several other unknown males park their vehicles in the lot east of the park at 2106 W. Kiest Blvd.

The detectives followed Jakes into a wooded area, where he approached them with his penis exposed through his unzipped pants, the affidavit states. Jakes masturbated for several seconds while making eye contact with one of the detectives.

Jakes made no attempt to conceal his penis despite people walking and jogging on a trail nearby, the affidavit states. According to court records, Jermaine Jakes listed his place of employment as T.D. Jakes Ministries. Jakes was released at the scene after being detained.

T.D. Jakes is the founder of the Potters House, a 30,000-member church in South Dallas. A vocal opponent of same-sex marriage, he’s been criticized by HIV/AIDS activists for undermining prevention of the disease by stigmatizing homosexuality and drug use.

On same-sex marriage, Jakes once told USA Today: “To date, I have not seen scriptural authority that allows me to stand on behalf of God and say I now pronounce you husband and husband, and wife and wife. This is an issue the government is undecided about. The Bible is not.”

Jermaine Jakes’ attorney, Faith Johnson, issued a written statement this week.
“We are aware of potential allegations involving Jermaine Jakes and are undertaking our own investigation of these allegations at this time,” the statement said. “Given an apparent government investigation, we have no further comment at this time.”

Hollywood police say pastor molested two girls, maybe more

The pastor of a Davie church was arrested Tuesday on charges that he repeatedly fondled and molested two members of his congregation, police said.

Felipe Arroyo, the 37-year-old pastor of Church of Christ Gethsemane, has been involved in a continuing pattern of abuse dating back at least two years, according to police spokesman Lt. Scott Pardon.

Police first learned of the alleged abuse when the parents of one of Arroyo's reported victims went to the Hollywood police station Saturday to report that their daughter had been molested by Arroyo numerous times since January 2007.

They told police that Arroyo touched the 13-year-old's breasts through her clothing and would kiss her neck and tell her how pretty she was, according to an affidavit filed by Officer Chris Christianson.

They also told police that, in one instance, Arroyo took their daughter to a movie theater at 7001 Taft St. and, while in the company of his wife, put his hand inside her shirt and her pants.

The parents, whom The Miami Herald is not identifying, said Arroyo called them and begged for forgiveness.

On Tuesday, a woman who is now 21 told police that Arroyo molested her when she was 16.

She said he would pick her up from her home and while on the way to the church, which at the time was in Hollywood at 6225 Johnson St., would touch her breasts. She said this happened more than 50 times. The church is now located at 4101 SW 61st Ave. in Davie.

The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating whether the girl's sister was also molested by Arroyo, according to the affidavit.

Arroyo was arrested Tuesday and booked into Broward County's main jail on $54,000 bail. He has been charged with five counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor and four counts of battery of a minor.

Hollywood police believe Arroyo may have more victims.

Anyone with information about Arroyo should call Christianson at 954-967-4411 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

Ex-pastor of South Whitehall facing new sex-related charges

A former pastor who was charged in September with using the Internet to sexually proposition a girl is facing new charges after state agents reported they found child pornography on his home computer.

Agents with the state attorney general's office charged Paul Marmon, 62, of 1897 Molinaro Drive, South Whitehall Township, with 66 new charges. Attorney General Tom Corbett said Marmon's computer contained images that show children under the age of 18 engaging in various sex acts.

Another Lehigh County man was also arrested this week following an investigation by the office's child predator unit.

William Carl Moyer, 43, of 1854 Siegfriedale Road, Breinigsville, was charged with sending explicit images to an undercover officer posing online as a 14-year-old girl.

Former Troy pastor arrested on sexual assault charge

A former Troy pastor was indicted by a grand jury Thursday, based on accusations that he molested a young boy last summer.

The Rev. James K. Gullen, 53, who served many years as pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church, was charged with predatory criminal sexual assault and two counts of criminal sexual abuse. He was in custody at the Madison County jail on $150,000 bond.

According to Detective James Newcombe, of the Troy Police Department, the incident was first reported to authorities on June 8, 2008, by a parent of the young boy, and allegedly occurred at the church's parsonage. The alleged victim was a family member of Gullen's and under the age of 6.

A warrant for Gullen's arrest wasn't officially issued until Jan. 23, when he was arrested at his home in Jacksonville, Ill.

Newcombe said the reason for such a long interval was because police weren't rushed and wanted to make sure they could go through all of the evidence and video testimony from witnesses.

"We knew the child was safe and didn't live near the suspect," he said. "In the interest of thoroughness, we took our time to make sure it was a complete investigation."

Gullen resigned as pastor of St. Paul in March 2008, after Troy police arrested him on a felony charge of driving under the influence.

Following his resignation, the church continued to allow the former pastor and his wife to live at the parsonage, where police say the assault later occurred.

Representatives from St. Paul Lutheran Church did not return phone calls.

Pastor's son arrested for sex crime

The 23-year-old son of a pastor who is said to work with church youth groups allegedly forced a 14-year-old girl to have sex with him, according to police reports.

Joshua Jemira Johnson was arrested in mid-December and charged on suspicion of committing three sex-related felonies. His father, David Johnson Sr., is a pastor at Glorious Faith Worship Center.

The family did not wish to comment, and neither did their attorney. Officials from the district attorney's office also refused to comment until the case is resolved.

The girl had spent the day with the Johnson family, and Joshua Johnson gave her a ride home.

According to police reports, Joshua Johnson drove to a park on Virginia Street with the girl, and forced her to have sex with him.

“When Johnson was contacted, he admitted to having sex with the victim,” police reports said.

Joshua Johnson was arrested the night of Dec. 14 at his apartment.

“She came home crying and told me what happened,” the girl's mother said. “My baby was a virgin.”

She added: “(Joshua) is trying to say she was flirting with him, but if you knew my daughter, you would know she wasn't,” she said.

It is The Californian's policy not to identify alleged victims of sexual assault, including family members, whenever possible.

The girl was taken to Memorial Hospital where tests were administered. The girl's family has stopped going to the church, where they said Johnson Jr. led youth programs.

The mother said her daughter, who has since turned 15, is upset about the situation.

“Sometimes she's good but sometimes she cries, and she's mad about it,” her mother said. “We just don't talk about it around her.”

The girl and her family have since moved to Georgia, but will return for court dates.

Joshua Johnson's next hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19. The charges he faces include unlawful sexual intercourse, lewd and lascivious acts with a child and oral copulation with a person under 16.

Biblical/Pentateuch Intolerance

Biblical/Pentateuch Intolerance:

I see so many religionists rant and rave about how Atheists are “not tolerant of believers and have no respect for their faith”. To non believers this claim is absurd. For intolerance of various religions is the foundation of Judaism, Christianity, Muslim and many other orthodox communities. Matter of fact, the Bible and Pentateuch commands religious intolerance in MANY verses, even to the point of KILLING people for their beliefs. Here then, are a few choice verses that show just how intolerant these religionists are of other believers and nonbelievers. We shall start with the two verses that helped to inflict one of the biggest mass murders in history, the Inquisition.

Woman with “familiar spirits” must be stoned to death. Leviticus 20:27

“Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.” Exodus 22:18

Kill those who are not Christian or Jewish:

You must kill those who worship another god. Exodus 22:20

Kill any friends or family that worship a god that is different than your own. Deuteronomy 13:6-10

Kill all the inhabitants of any city where you find people that worship differently than you. Deuteronomy 13:12-16

Kill everyone who has religious views that are different than your own. Deuteronomy 17:2-7

Kill anyone who refuses to listen to a priest. Deuteronomy 17:12-13

Kill any false prophets. Deuteronomy 18:20

Any city that doesn’t receive the followers of Jesus will be destroyed in a manner even more savage than that of Sodom and Gomorrah. Mark 6:11

Jude reminds us that God destroys those who don’t believe in him. Jude 5

Ignorance is bliss. Christians should not practice free inquiry nor socialize with non Christians:

Don’t associate with non-Christians. Don’t receive them into your house or even exchange greeting with them. 2 John 1:10

Shun those who disagree with your religious views. Romans 16:17

Paul, knowing that their faith would crumble if subjected to free and critical inquiry, tells his followers to avoid philosophy. Colossians 2:8

Judge other religions for not following Christ:

Whoever denies “that Jesus is the Christ” is a liar and an anti-Christ. 1 John 2:22

Christians are “of God;” everyone else is wicked. 1 John 5:19

The non-Christian is “a deceiver and an anti-Christ” 2 John 1:7

Anyone who doesn’t share Paul’s beliefs has “an evil heart.” Hebrews 3:12

False Jews are members of “the synagogue of Satan.” Revelations 2:9, 3:9

Here are my two personal favorites:

Everyone will have to worship Jesus -- whether they want to or not. Philippians 2:10

A Christian can not be accused of any wrongdoing. Romans 8:33
